Green Chiffon Shirtwaist Dress – c. 1950’s – Talmack of NY
She’s in the kitchen where she belongs carefully placing the last piece of lattice atop the homemade apple pie. From the TV in the living room Lucy is throwing back a ‘swig’ of ‘vitameatavegamin’. Her long legs are tired from supporting her hour-glass figure in her stiletto heels all day. The caramel from the pie has just managed to dribble itself onto the heart shaped pocket of her lace-trimmed apron. Thankfully, her apron has just saved the day by taking that gooey bullet for her coveted shirtwaist dress. This is no ordinary dress it’s a uniform, flirtatious, yet feminine in style. She learned well from the media in the other room that in order to hook her man and reel him in, she relies not on the depth of her personality and intellect, but on the womanly curves accentuated by the snug bodice and cinched waistline of her dress. This is a lovely dress with square neckline, front and back, short pleated sleeves, gathered at the ends and trimmed in the dress fabric with a jewel button closure and a box-pleated bodice embellished with a petite bow at the center. The skirt flows from a natural waistline and is fashioned with knife pleats all the way around. The box pleat at the center of the bodice continues into the skirt with two box pleats at the center extending down from the waistline. From these box pleats, the knife pleats then continue around the rest of the skirt and with no side seams there is only one seam in the rear, a nice touch. A belt of matching fabric completes the look. The colors in the plaid are vibrant olive, salmon and lilac with black snowflake designs scattered about. A lovely dress in design, yet bold in color with so many fine details. The label reads: Kay Juniors, A Division of Kay Windsor Frocks. There is a rear metal zipper.
Condition: The condition is excellent. There is some discoloration to the bottom quarter of the under slip which is not detectable when worn under the dress.
